Frequently Asked Questions

1 / Where do Ravenwood dinners take place?

Our dinners are set in a renovated 1850’s dairy barn located in Kerhonkson, NY, approximately two-and-a-half hours north of NYC and situated in the southern Catskills region.

2 / How long does each barn dinner last?

Each evening is approximately three hours long from start to finish. We encourage guests to arrive on time so they can have a chance to mingle with other guests and find seats next to those they’d prefer to be near.

3 / Is there alcohol at your dinners?

Yes, ticket prices include welcome beverages and wine pairings with dinner. For the safety of our guests, we suggest that you either arrange for a designated driver within your party or plan for a driving service to get you home safely.

4 / What can I expect at a Ravenwood Dinner?

Guests are welcomed with a signature beverage and time to mingle outside while dinner is being prepared over our open-fire grills. After being seated around one long communal table, guests enjoy hors d’oeuvres as we offer a brief introduction to the menu and wine selection. This is followed by a series of savory courses that make use of our own home-grown produce as well as meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables from our neighboring farmers. Taking advantage of what is available each month in the Hudson Valley, this meal is meant to be a celebration of time and place. After dinner, guests will be served coffee, tea and dessert and invited to stay seated or gather around the bon fire.

5 / Can you accommodate guests with dietary restrictions or food allergies?

Served at a communal table with both plated and passed dishes, our dinners are best suited for flexible, adventurous eaters. Often our menus are not locked into place until the week before the event occurs. This is to ensure that we’re making the best use of what produce is at it’s seasonal prime from our own farm and neighboring growers. While there will always be a range of vegetarian dishes on each menu and often vegan and gluten-free options as well, we unfortunately can not accommodate individual guests in a way that ensures ALL of their courses abide by their dietary restrictions.

6 / Can you accommodate children at your dinners?

As much as we love little ones (and have one of our own), we unfortunately can not accommodate children for our barn dinners out of respect for the other guests. These intimate dinners seat exactly 30 people and while we’re sure your child is well behaved, other guests (parents included) may be looking forward to a night out with adults only. The age limit for these events is 21 due to the nature of how alcohol is served throughout the evening and our permits. We hope you understand and bring your whole family by the barn during one of our pop-up weekend farm stands.

7 / What is the price per person and what is included in that price?

Our public dinners are $185 per person (plus a ticketing service fee and sales tax). This includes a reception with a welcome beverage, wine pairings, non-alcoholic beverages, a harvest board, a plated appetizer, 2 main courses family style, a plated dessert, coffee/tea, and all gratuities.

8 / What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept payment online only. You can use any major credit card (Visa, MasterCard or AMEX) or Paypal. Cash or check orders cannot be processed.

9 / When can I make a reservation?

Invitations to our dinners go out to our mailing list approximately two months prior to the event. These email invites announce the date and time tickets will go on sale. At this time, we post a link on the gatherings section of our site and blast a follow-up email to let guests know the ticket sales are live. For this reason, those on our mailing list have a slight advantage of securing a seat. You can view dinner listings and sign up for monthly emails here.

10 / Do you take reservations for larger parties?

Our ticketing system allows guests to make reservations for up to 8 people.

11 / What if it rains?

Our barn is set up to accommodate our guests rain or shine. If by chance there is a more severe storm in the forecast, we reserve the right to cancel the event and will do so at least 24 hours in advance. In this case, full refunds will be issued to our guests or gift certificates to be used during another evening.

12 / When will I receive directions to the barn and other important information about the dinner?

We send out a follow-up email to our confirmed guests about two weeks prior to the event. This email includes directions to the barn, suggestions for local accommodations, and all finalized dinner details. After making a reservation, please be sure to allow emails from [email protected] in your spam settings, so as not to miss further communication from us.

13 / Will I be able to see a copy of the menu before I arrive at the dinner?

Our menus are locked into place about a week before our dinners take place to ensure we’re making use of local produce in the area while it’s at its prime. All guests will receive a menu at the table when they are seated. Past examples of dinner menu can be found here: ravenwoodny.com/menus

14 / What if I have tickets but I can’t attend the event?

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cannot attend the dinner, you are welcome to sell or offer your tickets to someone else and let us know their name(s) for check-in. A second option is to email us as soon as possible, and we will do our best to fill your seats if there are guests on our waiting list. In this case, you would need to forfeit the sales tax and service fee for your refund. We’re sorry we can not guarantee that we’ll be able to fill the seats you previously purchased. Due to the nature of our events, no refunds will be given for cancellations without replacement dinner guests.

15 / Is there a waitlist for sold out dinners?

Yes. On the gathering section of our site, the reservation link will change from ‘Join Us’ to ‘Join Our Waitlist’ when the event sells out. You can use this link to choose a dinner date on the Eventbrite reservation and add your name to the list.

16 / What should I wear to a Ravenwood Dinner?

Guests tend to dress up a bit for our dinners but jeans and casual attire are not out of place. Our events take place in an indoor/outdoor space so be sure to dress in layers and bring a jacket or light blanket as it can get cold at night even on warm days. Please remember to wear appropriate shoes that can accommodate gravel and grassy fields in addition to barn wood floors.

17 / Does Ravenwood host private events?

We do host up to four private events each season. These events follow the same model as our dinners with 30 guests at $150/guest. Please reach out via email to find out which dates are available and to discuss details.
